Work under way on Third Street Bridge

Florida contractor awarded bid after a ‘very complex’ process

FAIRMONT — The OSHA safety record of a non-union, out-of-state contractor performing work on the David Morgan Memorial Bridge, or Third Street Bridge, is the subject of a flier circulating throughout the community.

Seminole Equipment Inc., out of Tarpon Springs, Fla., was awarded the bid for the job by the West Virginia Division of Highways in a process that indicated no substantial safety violations.

For the next few days, motorists may experience some delays. The bridge is also closed to pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians should use the Jefferson Street Bridge as an alternate route. while the Third Street Bridge is being cleaned and painted.

Despite those anonymously written fliers, there is no evidence that Seminole Equipment is violating any OSHA standards.
