Keep safety in mind when trick-or-treating

FAIRMONT — Due to inclement weather conditions, trick-or-treating in some parts of Marion County has been rescheduled.

Though the schedule changes should enable trick-or-treaters to avoid potential weather hazards, there are still some safety tips to keep in mind.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, trick-or-treaters should always be aware of their surroundings. The CDC says trick-or-treaters should travel in groups or be accompanied by a trusted adult.

In addition, trick-or-treaters should carry flashlights and attach reflective tape to costumes in order to improve visibility during the evening activity. Flame-resistant costumes are encouraged, and accessories such as swords and knives should be short, soft and flexible.
