Fifth Street Park Spring Festival May 18

‘It’s about taking care of Fairmont and Marion County’

FAIRMONT — The second annual Fifth Street Park Spring Festival is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 18.

Aaron Vedder, the organizer of the event, said its purpose is to bring businesses, organizations and members of the community together to network.

“It’s about taking care of Fairmont and Marion County,” Vedder said. “Cleaning up the neighborhoods and restoring the parks.”

Vedder said the event will include activities for the whole family, including food (such as barbecue and ice cream), games, music, education and shopping.

According to Vedder, 22 vendors have already signed up for the event, and registration is still open.

Vedder said he hopes the event will serve as an opportunity to showcase what local businesses and organizations have to offer.

“There are a lot of small organizations that have sprung up to help clean up Marion County and bring more of the local businesses back to Fairmont,” Vedder said. “This will allow them to come out and show the community what they’re trying to do and garner support.”

In addition, Vedder said members of the fire department, the police department and the National Guard will be in attendance. A veterans’ advocate will also be on site to provide veterans with information regarding their benefits.

Children will have the chance to tour a fire truck and participate in face painting and crafts.
