The Early Childhood Program at Pierpont Community & Technical College is incorporating practices from the Reggio Emilia Approach, based out of Italy, into its educational methods.
The Reggio Emilia Approach has become widely known for its success and has been adopted by preschool programs throughout the world.
In March, Barbara Pavel-Alvarez, the director of Pierpont’s Early Childhood Program, and Amber Myers, the laboratory preschool lead teacher and director, had the opportunity to visit Italy and tour multiple schools that employed the Reggio Approach.
Through speaking with teachers at those schools, Alvarez and Myers were able to get a closer look at the approach and then bring that knowledge back to their program at Pierpont.
