June 20 is going to be one whiz-bang of a celebration.
Marion County is planning to mark the state’s 150th birthday with style ... and fun.
Plans are still being made, but so far there will be contests for all, quilt displays, re-enactors, birthday cake, snippets of plays, crafts, birthday cake, book signings, bands and more.
And more birthday cake.
Marion County’s Civil War Sesquicentennial Coalition is at the heart of the planning. Planners meet every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Gatherings, 216 Monroe St.
The coalition was appointed in January 2011 “with the responsibility and privilege to lead activities in the county,” said Diana George, coalition member.
