FSU, Pierpont post security notices on websites, social media

Involve threats made by 17-year-old student

FAIRMONT — Few details have emerged, but Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College have both posted information online regarding threats made by a 17-year-old student. The Times West Virginian will follow the story throughout the day and keep readers informed of any developoments.

This is the information being distributed by FSU and Pierpont on their websites and through the social media outlets Facebook and Twitter:

To Campus Community – Today, FSU/Pierpont became aware of a potentially dangerous situation regarding a student. We are working in cooperation with Fairmont City Police department to locate the student. Please be extra cautious of all suspicious person(s) or anyone acting erratically. We ask that you contact Campus Police at ext. 4157 should have any questions or concerns.



In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the federal Cleary Act and University Police are giving notice of the following:



Reported Offense: A student has made credible threats to harm himself and others.



Suspect: One white male, 17 years old, possibly wearing blue jeans, black athletic shoes, 5’10”, 180 pounds, sandy blonde hair. Possibly armed. Please use extreme caution. Contact Campus Police at ext. 4157 should have any questions or concerns.



It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members of our campus community. It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible “dangerous conditions” on or near our campus and at affiliate organizations off campus.
