Missing teen in custody

Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT — A missing teen who campus and city police spent much of the day searching for Friday has been found.

Fairmont Chief of Police Kelley Moran said the teen, who was thought to be suicidally depressed and potentially dangerous, was taken into custody at Valley Falls State Park by U.S. Marshals and members of the Fairmont Police Department around 5:40 p.m. Friday.

Because the individual is a minor, Moran was unable to comment on the subject’s identity.

Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College saw additional security searching throughout the day and students were advised to leave early.

Moran applauded the joint efforts from the agencies involved, including the U.S. Marshals Service, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Clarksburg Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Office of Emergency Services in Marion County, FBI and Fairmont Police Department.

Moran also thanked members of the public for information that helped lead to the teen.
