There’s a lot of reason to believe that sports programs are important, if not vital, for middle school students, particularly in rural areas that don’t have a lot of other opportunities.
But how far would you be willing to go to preserve those programs?
For Nick Mayle, it’s 172 miles, the distance between Philippi and Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Barbour County teacher and coach, along with fellow coach and teacher Marcus Johnson, will make the trek beginning April 1 to bring attention to their cause and preserve middle school sports programs in their county.
