Woman rescued as fire destroys Deerfield home- PHOTOS

FAIRMONT — A Marion County woman was taken by air to a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation and second-degree burns in a fire that destroyed her Deerfield home Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, whose name is not being released, was reportedly the only occupant at the Brierwood Lane residence when the fire was discovered.

The family pet reportedly died in the fire, which was called in at 12:53 p.m.

Firefighters stayed on scene until past 5:30 p.m. At one point, 27 units responded.

Randall K. Kocsis, Division of Natural Resources police

officer, was making a general patrol of the area when he noticed smoke coming from the home.

“When I came on scene, I found the house on fire, with what we call a working structure fire.”

He then called the Marion County Sheriff’s Department to report the blaze..

“A neighbor flagged me down. There was a dog in the house, she thought. I advanced toward the house. The fire was coming out of the rear of the house predominately.

“I went around to the back of the house and found a lady lying in the snow with two adult males around her. They told me one had done a round of CPR on her. She was not breathing and was pulseless. When I got there, he said CPR efforts were successful in resuscitating her. We monitored her condition.

“The fire became more intense and we got her away from the house as the fire got hotter. We reached the point where we initiated rescue breathing, mouth-to-mask ventilations, to assist her breathing.
