Truck fire on I-79 delays traffic nearly three hours

FAIRMONT — A tractor-trailer truck caught fire on Interstate 79 late Sunday and delayed traffic for nearly three hours.

At 8:22 p.m. Sunday, emergency responders shut down the southbound lanes of interstate 79. Pleasant Valley and Winfield volunteer fire departments and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department responded to the truck fire.

According to 911 officials, the director of the Marion County Central Communications was dispatched to the scene because of a fuel leak.

One lane of the interstate was opened by 8:49 p.m. The remaining lanes of the interstate were opened before 11 p.m.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

Shooting at Fast Lanes

Early Sunday morning, a gun was fired inside a Fairmont bar. This is the second time in a year a shooting took place at this establishment.

According to Marion County 911 officials, Fairmont Police Department officers and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at 3:30 a.m. at the Fast Lanes Bar.

“A pistol was discharged into the ceiling four times,” Fairmont Police Chief Kelley Moran said. “There had been a large fight in the bar at the time.”

No injuries were reported, a Marion County 911 official said.

The previous shooting occurred on Aug. 7, 2013, when a man shot a handgun into the air four times outside of the bar.

The Fairmont Police Department is investigating a potential suspect.
