Hearing for Lach has been continued

FAIRMONT — The preliminary hearing for the Fairmont State dean and professor arrested for second-degree sexual assault of a male campus employee, has been continued.

It had been set for Thursday and has not been rescheduled.

Peter Lach, 68, of 112 David Daniels Road, Fairmont, had been arrested early Sunday, Aug. 4, by Fairmont State Campus Police for allegedly calling the victim into his office “in reference to his pay check and benefits.”

Lach was reportedly the victim’s direct supervisor.

He was first placed on administrative leave and then subsequently fired from his position as dean of the College of Fine Arts.

Lach allegedly pulled the victim’s trousers down, tried to physically restrain him and then began the sexual assault. The victim told the FSU professor to stop, but he didn’t. The victim told Lach he was in a relationship and “did not want to have sexual relations with him.”

Lach “reacted aggressively,” shoving the victim several times, causing him to fall to the floor, striking his head on a copy machine. The victim fled from the scene and went to United Hospital Center, where he reported the assault and was treated to a head injury.
