Fairmont firefighters will be taking their boots to the road tomorrow to collect money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Fairmont Firefighters Local 318’s annual “Fill the Boot” campaign raises funds for medical treatment and support services for individuals with neuromuscular diseases and their families.
Off-duty firefighters will be holding out boots for motorists’ donations from around 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be on Merchant Street at the High Level Bridge, along the Connector and in front of AutoZone.
The firefighters will be hard to miss. The department’s bright red ladder truck will be parked at AutoZone, with an MDA banner raised high.
The campaign has been a Local 318 tradition for at least 20 years. Fairmont Fire Capt. Mark Angelucci is looking forward to this year’s campaign.
“I love doing it,” Angelucci said. “I go in the morning. I have so much fun because you see people, talk, and it’s a blast.”
One hundred percent of funds raised will go toward muscular dystrophy, Angelucci said. In the past, Local 318 has raised between $2,800 and $5,000.
