FAIRMONT — Two upcoming training events will teach organizations and homeowners about energy-efficient construction and everyday practices.

Chris Haddox, visiting assistant professor with the West Virginia University Division of Design and Merchandising, often leads energy-efficient workshops and works with groups that are involved in housing repair. With grant funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, he is delivering free classes in Morgantown this weekend.

WVU is teaming up with CommunityWorks in West Virginia to offer the sessions. These fun, educational trainings are pilot programs, and Haddox is trying to see if there’s interest in these services.

One workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the training room of Lowe’s in the Glenmark Center. He said the class is aimed at nonprofit organizations, churches and other groups that use volunteers to do housing-related projects, and will educate their workforces.
