For several years, one Fairmont resident has been honored through a scholarship fund that helps send children to summer camps.
Staff from the Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (HRDF) and the Human Resource Development and Employment, Inc. (HRDE) established the Susie Haun Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1991, two years after Haun lost her life from being wounded by a tenant in the laundromat of Unity Terrace Apartments.
Tina Buchanan, housing marketing representative of (HRDE) and the daughter of Haun, said Haun was the manager of Unity Terrace Apartments. Buchanan said in honor of her mother, the fund began sending backpacks to kids who lived at the apartments and then started to expand their giving.
