Just over two years ago, a Fairmont family lost a beloved member when Evon Efaw apparently perished in a fire on Sept. 13, 2011, in her basement apartment on Chicago Street.
Their anguish was deepened the following day when police determined that she had been killed before the fire.
On June 21, 2012 — what would have been her 40th birthday — the State Medical Examiner’s Officer announced her cause of death was “asphyxia due to assault.”
She had been strangled to death.
As of today, there have been no arrests in her murder.
While her case remains unsolved, it is not cold, is not closed.
“Absolutely not,” said Lt. Investigations Steve Shine of the Fairmont City Police Department.
