Pierpont’s Mahoney state Chef of Year

His biggest award ‘is the opportunity to work with these young culinarians’

FAIRMONT — Jay Mahoney, the program coordinator and lead chef instructor for the culinary arts program at Pierpont Community & Technical College has been named the 2012 West Virginia Chef of the Year.

This is the the third time that Mahoney has been named Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation and the second time by the ACF West Virginia Chapter.

“It is definitely an honor to be awarded that,” Mahoney said.

Mahoney is a West Virginia native who grow up in Parsons. He studied at the culinary school at the Greenbrier Resort before moving out of state and working as an executive chef for resorts and hotels in Arizona and North Carolina for several years.
