A cookbook containing recipes from many different cultures has cultivated a level of enthusiasm into the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and is making its way into the community.
ESL students have compiled their favorite family recipes from countries like China, Vietnam and Mexico into a book they are calling “A Celebration of Culture.” Students also share their personal stories and their backgrounds.
“I was very excited to share my recipe and to read other students’ stories and recipes,” Barrackville fourth-grader Mia Bauch said.
ESL instructor Ashlea Cortellini enjoyed the books just as much.
“I think the kids’ stories are just as appealing as the recipes that they shared, too, so it makes it really neat for them,” Cortellini said.
