Fairmont eyes home rule benefits

Council sees chance to be in position to better meet city’s needs

FAIRMONT — As Fairmont City Council members and City Manager Jay Rogers await a decision to be made regarding the pending legislation to expand and extend the home rule pilot program, discussions are being held regarding the city’s potential application to the program.

Prior to Tuesday night’s council meeting, members and Rogers held a work session to analyze the concepts that have been developed by city staff that they believe would aid the city in its ability to serve residents and businesses.

“Who else knows but the cities what we want and what we need,” Mayor Ron Straight said.
