Fairmont’s 11-12 Little League All-Stars had no problem Monday with Moorefield in the state Little League tournament.
After having to fight back from a 4-0 deficit to Barboursville on Sunday, Fairmont exploded offensively on its way to a 13-2 victory and a perfect record in pool play.
“We started out a little better today,” Fairmont coach Doug Hannah said. “We jumped on them a little bit early and got a quick lead.”
Fairmont put three runs on the board in the top of the second thanks to Gage Hannah’s one-out triple and Bailey Mohr’s double. Mohr and Luke Hrapchak then came around to score on a wild throw by Moorefield.
After Moorefield scored two of its own runs, Fairmont fired back with another run in the four and five runs in the fifth. Fairmont tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth to finish out the game.
Mohr led the way at the plate for Fairmont going 4-for-4 with a double.
Johnny Ray Kesling, who was also the winning pitcher, was 3-for-4 with a double. Hannah also had three hits, including a triple and double.
Hrapchak blasted a solo home run for Fairmont, Austin Norman doubled and Ronnie Mills added a hit in the win.
The win completes pool play for Fairmont and their perfect 3-0 record puts them in the eight-team single elimination final.
“I just found out that we play Logan,” Doug Hannah said.
Fairmont and Logan will meet at 5 p.m. today in Clarksburg.
There will be four games today, two each at the Clarksburg and Bridgeport fields. On Wednesday the four winners will meet in the semifinals and the state championship will be held on Thursday.
