Falcons gearing up for WVIAC showdown

FAIRMONT — Fairmont State men’s basketball is set to toe the line against Wheeling Jesuit at home Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Falcons carry a five-game winning streak into the WVIAC showdown.

But it isn’t just FSU who’s on a roll — Wheeling Jesuit has won six out of its past eight games.

“They have our guys’ attention,” Fairmont State head coach Jerrod Calhoun said Sunday. “We were in a dog fight when we were there at Wheeling. Other than us and West Liberty, Wheeling Jesuit is the hottest team in our conference.”

Calhoun hopes fans will come out and support the Falcons like they did last week against Charleston.

“Last Thursday, you had 4,000 people in the city watching basketball — 3,000 at our game and 1,000 at the East-West game,” Calhoun said. “So that shows from a coaching standpoint of how much people care here. That means a lot to our staff, and I know that our players enjoy playing in front of a great crowd.”
