No matter what happens next week  — if Fairmont Senior returns from Beckley with no state tournament hardware or two shiny new plaques — 2012 was undoubtedly a successful year for Marion County high school soccer.

A unique one, too.

Where many assumed the drop down in classification would be a huge boon for the county’s three football schools, perhaps the biggest shifts so far have been felt in the “other” football.

After all ...

• Both Polar Bear teams are headed to the state tournament. It’s the first trip to Beckley for the boys since 2009, the girls 2007.
