Robert Lee Martin, 74 of Alma, and formerly of Mannington, passed away Friday (April 11, 2008) at United Hospital Center.
He was born June 27, 1933 at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Brooks B. and Dorothy Phillips Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Ona Costello Martin; two stepchildren, Joseph Quellhorst of Illinois and Brenda Schlabowski of Alma; five step grandchildren; two brothers, Everett and wife Judy Martin of Mannington and Brooks and wife Rose Martin of Geneva, Ohio; a special brother-in-law, Robert “Buck” Fisher of Blackwood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Lutrica Ann “Tress” Fisher Martin who passed away on July 3, 1996; six brothers and sisters, James Martin, Emma Lucas, Dolores Faye Murray, Margaret Ellen Martin, Jean Wadsworth and Rosalee Evans.
Mr. Martin was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a fan of race cars, football and baseball. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He worked for several years at Consolidated Laundry in Philadelphia. After his retirement there, he returned to Mannington after living in Glendora, N.J. for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, with the Rev. Franklin Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park. Online condolences may be sent to mastersfh@verizon.net.
