James Iaconis

James William Iaconis, age 90, of Clarksburg, passed away Thursday (Jan. 9, 2014), at the Heartland of Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

He was born March 4, 1923, in Farmington, a son of the late Dominico Iaconis and Rose Rizzo Iaconis.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Iaconis was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Virginia Hickman, and his cousin, Dr. John Rizzo, formerly of Fairmont.

Surviving are his brother, William James Iaconis and his wife Mary Jude of Clarksburg; one nephew, Kevin Iaconis of Clarksburg; and three cousins, James, Sam and Mary Angeline Rizzo.

Mr. Iaconis was a sergeant in the United States Army, having served his country in World War II in the Battery A 226th Anti-aircraft Searchlight Battalion during the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated, having been a Bronze Star recipient.

Mr. Iaconis was retired from Hazel Atlas Glass Co. He was a member of the Meuse Argonne Post No. 573 VFW in Clarksburg and a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Family and friends will be received at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St., Nutter Fort, on Sunday from noon-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Catholic Funeral Rites will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father William Anderson presiding. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, where full military services will be accorded by the VFW Post No. 573 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the VFW Post No. 573, 430 W. Pike Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
