Thomas J. Tokarz

FAIRMONT — Thomas J. Tokarz, 76, of the Jordan Community, Rivesville, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 26, 2010) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born Oct. 2, 1934 in the Jordan Community, a son of the late Joseph John and Victoria Deering Tokarz.

Mr. Tokarz was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont. He was a 1952 graduate of Rivesville High School.

Tom served in the U.S. Air Force four years. He was in air training command stationed at Pinecastle A.F.B., Orlando, Fla., and McConnell A.F.B., Wichita, Kan.

Mr. Tokarz was employed with Alcoa in Cleveland, Ohio, where he retired in 1996 with 40 years of service.

Tom enjoyed all sports such as league bowling in Cleveland, hunting and fishing locally, and watching his beloved WVU, Cleveland Indians and Browns. Mr. Tokarz was very close to his nieces and nephews who cared for him as if he were their father.

Survivors include a brother, Edward and his wife Barbara Tokarz of Peculiar, Mo.; sister, Julia Maselli of Rivesville; sister-in-law, Wanda Tokarz of Rivesville; nieces and nephews, Mike and his wife Amy Tokarz of Rivesville, Paula Tokarz of Fairmont, Joe Tokarz of Kansas, and Mary and her husband Tom Benes of Nebraska; and great-nieces and -nephews, Stephanie and Jacob VanGilder, and Raleigh Benes.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Jr., Raymond and Paul Tokarz; and a sister, Rose Mary Tokarz.

Friends and family may call Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper streets, Rivesville, from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairmont. Graveside military rites will be held by the Marion County Veterans Council.
