William ‘Bill’ Julian

William F. “Bill” Julian, 74, of Fairmont, passed away at his home Saturday (Sept. 8, 2012).

He was born Sept. 24, 1937 in Fairmont, the son of the late Samuel and Susie Fraternale Julian.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon Jones Julian. He was adored by his three daughters, Susan Cain and husband Jon of Fairmont, Amy Amos and husband Bobby of Winchester, Va., and Beth Berry and husband Steve of Lyon, France.

“Pa Pa” engaged his seven grandchildren, Meredith and Morgan Cain, Matthew, Alex and Hannah Amos, and Nicholas and Molly Berry, with his imaginative storytelling.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John Julian; and is survived by his sister-in-law, Joyce Julian of Pensacola, Fla. He also is survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Jones and wife Angie of Charles Town, and sister-in-law, Jill Hnat and husband Michael of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, David A. Julian; three aunts, Lucy DiVirgilio and Lily Julian, both of Fairmont, and Ida Stockmeyer of Michigan; and his many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

He enjoyed fishing and golfing with his lifelong friends, Rex “Bones” Hamilton, Robert Beafore, Richard Julian and Ronnie Retton.

Bill attended Fairmont Senior High School Class of 1955. He was a 1961 graduate of Fairmont State College and obtained his master’s degree at West Virginia University. Bill spent 30 years as a Student Affairs counselor at Fairmont State. He advocated for students with disabilities to have access to higher education.

Bill’s love for sports began at an early age as an all-star player for the first formed Little League team in Marion County. He was a state wrestling champion from Fairmont Senior High School in 1953. He was proud to be a Mountaineer. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a vigil service being held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Domico Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Bill would like donations to be made to Marion County Little League, the Bob “Big D “ DeLorenzo Scholar Athlete Scholarship Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
