Albert Brown Jr.

Albert Grant Brown Jr., 82, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2012) at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lumberport on Sept. 26, 1930, a son of the late Albert Given Brown and Pansy (Mahle) Brown Monroe.

Albert proudly served his country with the U.S. Army, retiring after 22 years of service. He served one tour in the Korean War and two tours in the Vietnam War. After his retirement, he worked as an auto mechanic, owning and operating Brown’s Foreign Car Repair in Rivesville. He was a graduate of Shinnston High School Class of 1949 and attended Oak Mound Evangelical Church in Clarksburg, where he taught Sunday school.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ann (Rowand) Brown. The couple married on June 12, 1954. He is also survived by three sons, Chester Brown and his wife Becky of Cabot, Ariz., Roger Brown and his wife Keri of Newport News, Va., and Albert Brown III and his wife Winnie of Cherry Tree, Pa.; one daughter, Linda Haught and her husband Doug of Albany, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Keith Brown, Kayla Brown, Kristen Brown, Adam Brown, Jason Brown, Aaron Brown, Reuben Haught and Daniel Haught; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Brown and Felicity Brown.

Also surviving are six nieces and nephews, Cheryle Randall, Sue Layfield, Bill Ellgas, Robert Ellgas, Sybil Brown and Ricky Ellgas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Ellgas; and a brother, Clarence Brown.

Family and friends may call at Oak Mound Evangelical Church, 401 Oak Mound Road, Clarksburg, from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the church at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor David Baker officiating. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Enterprise, where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, especially caregivers Bridget and Melinda, for all their wonderful care during his illness.

Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, has been entrusted with arrangements.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
