William Nester Sr., of South Farmington, passed away Tuesday (April 23, 2013) at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Farmington, a son of the late Stewart and Lena Nester. Mr. Nester was a coal miner, having retired from Bethlehem Steel Co.’s Idamay and Barrackville Mines. He was a member of the UMWA and the Llewellyn Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. In his younger days, he enjoyed working on televisions and radios.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Vickie Nester and Rick Sr. and Donna Nester, all of South Farmington; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William “Butch” Mike, South Farmington; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Bartholow, Enterprise; sisters-in-law, Jean Moore and husband Stanley, New Martinsville, Ruth Ann Arp, of Ohio; and a niece, Margaret Murphy.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ella Mae Fluharty Nester; three children, Susie, Mark and Debra Nester; a sister; and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Friday. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Farmington.
