Virginia Tork

Virginia Irene Tork, 102, passed away peacefully in Gaithersburg,, Md. ,where she resided with daughters, Sharon Scotchel and Deborah Tork, and grandson Michael Scotchel.  

She was born Sept. 20, 1910, the daughter of Samuel H. Ernest and Myrtie Weekly Ernest.  

She graduated from Cameron High School and received a teaching degree from Fairmont Normal School in 1927.  

She taught for a time in a one-room school. While living in Fairmont, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Claire Lloyd Circle and played piano for the men's Bible class. She was a homemaker who loved to sew, wall paper, paint and serve her family with love.  

She is survived by her daughter, Patty Priester of Fairmont, Barbara Van Nostrand of Damascus, Md., son David and wife Mary Jo of Wheeling; daughters, Sharon Scotchel and Deborah Tork of Gaithersburg, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews also survive; two sisters-in-law, Alvida Amendolia and Mary Tork of Fairmont also survive.  

Her two sisters, Ruth Gray and Florence Clark, are deceased.  

She was the grandmother of James Priester of Fairmont and great-grandmother to Stefan and Carter Priester of Fairmont and granddaughter Pamela Priester of Morgantown.  

She is being interred in the family cemetery next to her husband and parents near Cameron.  A service was held in Gaithersburg, Md.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
