Joice Ann Carter

Joice Ann Carter, of Fairmont, entered into eternal peace on Friday (Dec. 13, 2013), following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She departed while being surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Joice was born at Little Falls on May 24, 1942, a daughter of the late William “Bill” Carter and Ora Ellen Perkins Carter.

She worked as a secretary for Try-Again Homes, Inc., where she retired in 2010.

Joice was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had the greatest smile and was a kind and caring person that will be missed by many. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, gardening, refinishing furniture and reading, with the Bible being her favorite book. She was a devout Christian, never losing her faith in the Lord. She attended Pisgah Methodist Church and also had attended Tri-City Church of God.

She leaves her memories to be cherished by her son, Jonathan S. Carter of Fairmont; three sisters, Judy Carter of Fairmont, Lucille Powell of Fairmont, and Virginia Wilson of Kingmont; and four grandchildren, Autumn, Isaiah, Johnna and Mason Carter, all of Fairmont. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Pete Sehewchuk of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Monnie Satterfield and Bonnie Sehewchuk; and four brothers, Carl Carter, Victor Carter, Billy Carter and Gary Carter. She also is preceded by two brothers-in-law, Donald Powell and Floyd Eugene Wilson; two nephews, Danny Sehewchuk and Donnie Powell; and one niece, Ellen Boone.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Monday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Tom Shepherd officiating.

Interment will follow at the Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County in the Carter family plot.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fairmont General Hospital, UPMC of Pittsburgh, Pa., Amedisys Hospice Care, Joice’s two wonderful neighbors, Alice Bean and Mary Pyle, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department for all of their loving care and compassion of Joice and her family during her illness.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
