Elizabeth Kocsis

Elizabeth Jean Fulaytar Kocsis, 101, of Barrackville, passed away peacefully Thursday (Dec. 26, 2013) at the St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah.

She was born May 22, 1912, in Perth Amboy, N.J., a daughter of the late Alex and Rose Fulaytar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius George Kocsis, in 1966.

Mrs. Kocsis retired from Golden Brothers Department Store, where she served as a store clerk for more than 26 years until the store’s closing. She also had worked at Shifts Shoe Store in Fairmont. Elizabeth was a member of the VFW of Fairmont and the Ladies Shrine of Morgantown. Her Hungarian heritage was an important part of her life, as was her cooking the recipes passed down from her parents and the home country.

She is survived by her son, George J. and his wife Nancy Kocsis of Fairmont; grandchildren, Randall and his wife Janette Kocsis, Aaron Kocsis, and Jenny and her husband Charles Reese; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Rebecca Kocsis, Carrington and Atticus Reese. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including two close nieces, Dr. Beverly Booth and Patricia Logan, as well as two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Fulaytar and Charlotte Rexroad.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alex, John and Steve Fulaytar; her sister, Helen Foster; her companion of many years, Elmer Cook; as well as two nephews, William Doby and Bradley Fulaytar, both of Barrackville.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Neila Berry and Mary Riffle, Dr. Katragadda and her staff, as well as the St. Barbara’s Nursing Home and staff for their excellent care for Elizabeth over the last several years.

The family requests memorial donation be made to the giver’s favorite charity in Elizabeth’s memory.

Friends and family may call Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday with Reverend James M. Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Fairmont.
