Charles Lee Allen, 63, of Fairmont and formerly of Lakeland, Fla., passed from this life Saturday (Jan. 4, 2014), at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Dubois, Pa., a son of the late William F. and Virginia M. Baker Allen.
Chuck was Methodist by faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany during the Vietnam era.
He had held several jobs over the years, the last of which was as a machine mechanic with the S&L Laundry. He enjoyed tinkering, and was always trying to fix something. He also enjoyed watching movies and reading, and he was a NASCAR fan, especially of Jeff Gordon. He was a kind-hearted and loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Allen is survived by three sons, William and his wife Shirley of Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., currently stationed in Afghanistan, Charles Allen II, and Michael Bristol and his wife Sarah of Vero Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Tammy Waldie and her husband Jim of Eustis, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Johnathan and Faith Allen, Kayla and Renee Tremain, and Logan, Spenser, Ella, Elise and Abigail Bristol; one sister, Suzette Allen, who shared her home with him and was his primary caregiver; three brothers, John M. Allen of Portland, Ore., Jerry Schell of Barrackville, and William Schell and wife Elizabeth of Worthington.
In keeping with Charles’ wishes, his body has been cremated. A committal service will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Melvin Ringer officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Marion County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Marion County Humane Society, P.O.
