Martha Greathouse

Martha Mae Greathouse of Chestertown, Md., died on Saturday (Nov. 23, 2013), with her family in Randallstown, Md.  

Born on Feb. 16, 1944 in Wallace, she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Nellie P. Currence. She moved to Maryland to raise her family. Ms. Greathouse worked as a caregiver at the Kent Center in Chestertown. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening and spending time with her dog Taco.

Ms. Greathouse is survived by four daughters, Gerry Lee Foskey of Bridgeville, Del., Kimberly Kay Hopkins of Towson, Md., Cheryl Lynn Bryant of Chestertown, Md., and Genea Kay Smith of Palmer, Ark.; one son, Thomas Benjamin Hopkins of Bridgeville, Del.; a sister, Cathy Baker of Ocean City, Md.; two brothers, Wilson Currence of Fredericksburg, Ohio, and Joe Currence of Richmond, Va., 18 grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Nellie Currence of Ambrose, Virginia Davis of West Virginia, Genevieve Rogers of West Virginia, Violet Slayton of Baltimore, Md., and Ruth Horne of Florida; and a brother, Clinton Currence of Wheeling.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, at 6 p.m. at Darlene’s Tavern located at 5124 Sudlersville Road, Sudlersville, Md. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Genea Smith at Centreville National Bank, 899 Washington Ave., Chestertown, MD 21620 to defray medical and funeral expenses.

Interment will be private.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
