Bernard “Ace” Berry

— Bernard William “Ace” Berry, 70, of Fairmont, finished his race here on Earth and crossed over into the arms of Jesus on Monday (March 11, 2013) at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Goodyear, Ariz.

He was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Fairmont, son of the late Hobart William and Elizabeth (Darway) Berry.

Ace was a member of the Army Reserves and was an active member of the Steel Workers Union 1199. He was formerly employed as a fabricator welder for Galis, FMC and Eimco, and later worked as a custodian for the Marion County Board of Education at Pleasant Valley School.

In his spare time, Ace enjoyed gardening, going to yard sales, spending time with his family and watching NASCAR. He was famous for his one-line jokes and liked to make people smile. Ace was a member of the Central Church of the Nazarene in Fairmont.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Berry; three daughters, Wendie Martin and husband Tim of Fairmont, Heidi Kosik and husband Jamie of Fairmont, and Amy Painter of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Lindsey Martin, Tori, Evan and Drew Kosik, Zachary and Lily Painter; three sisters, Barbara Metcalfe and husband John of Fairmont, Carolyn Hornick and husband Roger of Idamay, and Marilyn Satterfield of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Barbara Richardson and husband Jim of Ohio; brother-in-law, David Stout and wife Cheri of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Sharon Stout of Fairmont; and sister-in-law, Susie Huff of Colorado. He is also survived by his best buddy, his dog Lady Bug.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Richard Berry, Charles Berry and wife Clara, Paul Berry and Marjorie Berry; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ethel and Carl Molenock; brother-in-law, Bill Stout; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Lopez.

 The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Doug Hendrixson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
