Garnet Lee Holsberry, 92, of Barrackville, peacefully passed away Tuesday (Sept. 3, 2013) at the Fairmont Campus of Genesis Tygart Center.
She was born Aug. 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Eugene June and Evelyn Louise Huffman Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Francis Holsberry.
Mrs. Holsberry was a 1940 graduate of East Fairmont High School and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont. She retired as the dorm director of Morrow Hall at Fairmont State College in 1986, and was honored in 2006 as a recipient of the Fairmont State Student Affairs Hall of Fame Award. A member of the C.E.O.S. and Edgemont Homemakers clubs, she was also a well-known seamstress.
Mrs. Holsberry is survived by a daughter, Dr. Sharon Louise Holsberry Smith and her husband Kevin Smith of Barrackville; a brother, John W. Moore of Meadowdale; a brother-in-law, C. Gene Parsons of Harrisburg, Pa.; a grandson, Bart Hibbs and his companion Kelly Saunders of Atlanta, Ga.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Francis Lee Holsberry; a brother, Harry J. Moore; and three sisters, Maxine Moore, Doris Parsons and Joan Martin. She was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Velma Moore and Mary Lou Moore; a brother-in-law, Oliver Martin; and two nephews, Mark Moore and John William Moore
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. David Cyphers officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
