Charles ‘Don’ Sconish

Charles Donald “Don” Sconish, 85, of Fairmont (Bellview Community), went to his heavenly home Friday (Nov. 15, 2013) following a lengthy illness.

Don was born the son of Charles Sconish and Eva Gower Sconish at Kilarm on Nov. 1, 1928.

He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a communications specialist assigned to the 2nd Ranger Company and the 2nd Ranger Battalion. After returning home he worked in the construction industry. Don was an avid musician and a master of many different instruments. Music was a great love of his, having been a member of various country and bluegrass bands in the local area. He also gave lessons to many people at the Pleasant Valley YWCA who had the same love for music that he did. He was the scoutmaster of Troop 14 in Bellview for several years. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved to teach his love and skills to others, including his nephew James “Jimmy” Summers, his brother-in-law Gary Six and his grandson Patrick Wade Sconish. Don was a huge Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and WVU fan.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenda Husk Sconish; one son, J.C. “Chuck” Sconish of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Twyla Dawn Sconish of Plymouth, Minn., Samantha Sue Thomason Sconish and Sgt. Anthony Thomason of Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Patrick Wade Sconish of Fairmont; one sister, Vera Bernice Levelle of Fairmont; a brother-in-law, Gary T. Six of Holiday, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Tennant of Blacksville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Jackie Stiles, Don’s niece, who without her help each and every day we would have never been able to care for him these past seven months. Jackie, you have truly been a Godsend to your uncle and the entire family. We would also like to thank the staff of Genesis Center, in particular the B Wing nursing staff, for his care these past months. Your love for him has always been evident. To the doctors and nurses of Mon General ICU, 4N and ER, your skills and expertise gave him back to us in his darkest days. And finally to Dr. Vicki Mays, NP Sharon Sneft and LPN Sheryl Simons, you three have been true angels of mercy and we can never thank you enough. God bless each and every one of you.

The pallbearers will be Sgt. Anthony Thomason, Patrick W. Sconish, Gary Six, Randall Kocius, James Morris Summers and John Bergenstal.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Duane Styles officiating. Burial will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military rites being performed at graveside.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
