Lonabell Knisell

Lonabell Knisell, 71, of Morgantown, formerly of Laurel Point, passed away Monday (Feb. 3, 2014) at Sundale Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late James Junior and Sylvia Opal Wilson Smith.

Lonabell was an avid reader and a great believer in education. After raising four children, she enrolled in West Virginia University, where she received her undergraduate and master’s degree in social work.

She was a woman of great faith and became a lay minister with the Methodist church. Lonabell possessed an outgoing personality and was definitely a people person. She loved to dance, was a member of the Red Hat Society and attended the Westover Senior Center. Lonabell was a loving person who doted on her grandchildren and her feline companion “fat cat.”

Lonabell is survived by her daughter, Erica Janes and husband Ken Ashton of Fairmont; three sons and spouses, Duane and Lorraine Janes of Morgantown, Ronald and Billie Janes Jr. of Laurel Point, and Raymond and Valerie Janes of Laurel Point; four stepdaughters, Marsha Knisell of National, Beverly Knisell of Morgantown, Angela Knisell of Glory Barn Road and Melanie Brown of Glory Barn Road; one stepson, Alan Knisell of National; one sister, Laurelle Smith of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel, Theresa, Morgan, Madison, Sylvia, Karson and Harley Janes, and Carrie Hull; and step-grandchildren, Jerrod Lough, Kevin Knisell, Justin Knisell, Jasmine Wiles, Roger Kinsley Jr., Tucker and Casey Knisell, Charles Brown Jr. and Wyatt Brown.

Lonabell was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Janes; and her second husband, John Knisell.

The family requests that donations be made in Lonabell’s memory to On Eagles’ Wings Therapeutic Riding Center, 661 Opekiska Ridge, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home from noon today until the 1 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Kevin B. Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery.
