Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Jones, 43, of Barrackville, passed away Thursday (June 27, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Fairmont on Nov. 5, 1969, a daughter of Curtis H. Jones of Fairmont and Thelma Louise (Washington) Jones of Fairmont.
Liz was employed by Gabriel Brothers as a clerk for 12 years. In her earlier years she had also worked at McDonald’s and Ruskin Co.
Liz loved her family and friends. She enjoyed bowling, skating and swimming. She leaves us with the encouraging words “keep your head up,” as she was quoted as saying in the 2010 Times West Virginian article about her support of the Relay for Life program as she was fighting for her life.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her one and only daughter, Anaiah D. O’Neal, whom she loved dearly, of Fairmont; one sister, Cindy Allen and her husband Larry of Clarksburg; and five brothers, Leo Jones, Curtis Jones and his wife Kelley, Tony Jones and his companion Olivia Barner, all of Barrackville, Brazz Evans and his wife Tracy, and Dawain Jones and his wife Tammi, all of Fairmont.
Also surviving is a special friend, Lenny O’Neal, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Georgia Washington; her paternal grandparents, Curtis and Earline (Freeman) Sr.; five aunts, Alice Brown, Victoria Gregory, Delores Turner, Little Georgia Washington and Amy Little Washington; one uncle, James Washington; and one cousin, Harold “Suggie” Jones.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Hal Hevener and Rev. Kevin Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Fairmont General Hospital and staff for all of their care of Liz during her illness.
