Maddy Lupo

Madestina “Maddy” Lupo, 94, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (June 29, 2013) at the John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center in Fairmont.

She was born Nov. 22, 1918, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Alexander and Rose (Moccia) Finamore.

Maddy was a co-owner and operator along with her husband Marshall of Lupo’s Lunch in downtown Fairmont. She was a longtime member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, a former member of the St. Madaline Guild at Immaculate Conception Church, and a bowling league in Fairmont.

She is survived by one son, Marshall Lupo Jr. of Fairmont; one sister, Lena Moreno of Fairmont; two grandsons, Marshall Lupo III and his wife Sarah, and Alex Lupo and his wife Christine; a granddaughter, Lindsay Howley and her husband Patrick; five great-grandchildren, Ella and Adeline Lupo, Patrick, Morgan and Caroline Howley; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special friend, Nancy Watkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Lupo Sr.; two brothers, Victor and Achille Finamore; one sister, Mary DeBlasio; and a niece, Victoria Shaffer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of John Manchin Sr. Healthcare Center for their love and attention, and also Fairmont Hospice Care.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
