Rose Mary Core

Rose Mary Core, 83, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (April 1, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Garfolio) Gerarde.

Rose was formerly employed at G.C. Murphy’s, McCroy’s, Westinghouse, Grant’s and Owens-Illinois. She was a member of the Fairmont Christian Assembly on Fulton Street.

Rose, whose life was her grandchildren, loved to cook and was an avid fan of Fairmont State University basketball and West Virginia University football and basketball.

She is survived by her husband, Bobbie E. Core; two sons, Robert Core and wife Tama of Rivesville, Tim Core of Seneca Rocks and Karen Core of Fairmont; grandchildren, Shelby Clark and husband Seth Clark, Tyler Core, Michael Core, Andrew Core, Caitlin Rexrode and Jordan Rexrode; and great-grandchild, Mia Clark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Core; four brothers, Guy, Sam, Frank, and Joe; and three sisters, Lena, Frances and Sophie.

Family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. George Batten officiating. Burial will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in White Hall.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
