Dale “Frank” Brooks

Dale “Frank” Franklin Brooks, 63, of Shinnston, passed away Monday (April 1, 2013), at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.  

He was born Sept. 14, 1949, at Fairmont, a son of Dale E. and Wanda Curio Brooks.

He worked at Consolidation Coal at the Bailey Mine as a main line motor man. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church. He also enjoyed playing gospel music on a regular basis.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carothers Brooks, whom he married on March 27, 1971; two daughters, Crystal Dawn Brooks and husband Bill Barbour of North Haven, Conn., and Stephanie Ann Thorne and husband Brent Thorne of Brown; a son, Samuel Grant Brooks of Farmington; five grandchildren, Devin Elizabeth Barbour, Aaron William Barbour, Katelyn Paige Brooks, Alyvia Marie Brooks and Taylor Reece Thorne.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 1 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Lumberport Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Ham officiating.  

The body will be lying in state two hours prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lumberport Lions Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Dale Brooks to the Fairmont Federal Credit Union.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
