William Harold Shawhan, 80, of Mannington, passed away Monday (April 1, 2013) at his residence.
He was born June 13, 1932, in Harrison County, a son of the late William Woody Shawhan and Agnus Marie Zirkle Shawhan.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Sharon Shawhan of Coco, Fla.; one daughter, Shelly Jakobsen and husband Robert of Oviedo, Fla.; three granddaughters, Amanda Fowler of Longwood, Fla., Samantha Steele of Weirton, and Alexis Hagood of Oviedo, Fla.; one great-grandson, Michael Jordan of Willits, Calif.; and a family friend, Abdul “David” Naibbe of Alexandria, Va.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amber Shawhan; an aunt, Barbara Conner; and one brother, Robert Shipman.
William was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a general contractor for construction sites. He enjoyed collecting turtles as well as working in his vegetable garden. He was a member of the Mannington Moose Lodge.
There will be no funeral home visitation or funeral services. Committal services will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton. Full military rites will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Marion County Veterans Council at 11 a.m. today.
