Grace Perkins

Grace Lily (Carpenter) Perkins, 81, of Rivesville, passed away Saturday (Sept. 7, 2013) at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

She was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Rivesville, to the late Milton and Bessie (Hawkins) Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clarence W. Perkins.

Grace was a housewife, enjoyed watching game shows on TV and served on several bowling leagues.

She is survived by her sons, Clarence (Lillie) Perkins Jr. of Palmetto, Fla., Robert (Lisa) Perkins of Idamay, and John (Connie) Perkins of Fairmont; her daughters, Barbara (Donnie) Marze of Campbello, S.C., and Carol Sue (Greg) Thorn of Glen Allen, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Perkins Adaclerio of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Frank Carpenter of Fairmont; a sister, Betty Carpenter Horvath of Rivesville; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Grace was preceded in death by a son, David Perkins; brothers, George Carpenter, Jim Carpenter and Charles Carpenter; a sister, Lily Carpenter Perkins; and a granddaughter, Sabrina Perkins.

In accordance with Grace’s wishes, her body will be cremated.

She will be dearly missed.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
