Kenneth “Red” Shuman

Kenneth “Red” Shuman, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday (Sept. 26, 2013) at his home.

He was born in Fairmont on Nov. 10, 1934, a son of the late Carney W. and Lula Mae (Kiger) Shuman.

Red proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from North American Philips, where he worked as a machine attendant. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State University. Following his retirement from Philips, he went to work in the law building at West Virginia University.

He was a member of Philips Retirees Group. He enjoyed attending the dinners of the retirees group each year, and he also enjoyed the fellowship of all the employees and staff at the law building during the holidays. He loved boating and fishing at Smoke Hole in Petersburg.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary S. (Musgrave) Shuman of Morgantown, and many good friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Stahl, and a brother, Wendell Shuman.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m., with Evangelist Peter Ray Cole officiating. Flag-folding honors will be conducted in the funeral home by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
