Paul Hosey

Paul Ernest Hosey, 95, of Lewisburg and formerly of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Nov. 7, 2013) at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte.

He was born in Braxton County, on March 8, 1918, a son of the late Lemon L. and Betty Faye (Jackson) Hosey.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Florence Marie “Bobbi” (Hitt) Hosey.

Paul proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a coal miner by trade, retiring with 40 years of service in the Consol 93 Jordan Mine and the Arkwright Mine. He was a life-long member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Arnettsville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed nature, gardening, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Chuck Hosey and his wife Kim of Morgantown, and Bruce Hosey of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Nathan Hosey, David Hosey, Avin Taylor, Logan Hosey, Greyson Hosey and Stephanie “Stevie” Loudermilk; and six great-grandchildren, Julian Hosey, Danielle Hosey, Dakota Hosey, Garrett Hosey, Crystal Hosey and Kevin Hosey.

Also surviving is a brother, Mansell E. Hosey and his wife Bessie of Virginia, and Dorcas Hosey of Everettville, who was like a daughter to Paul.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Hosey.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sandy Firth officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
