Thelma Jean Owens

Thelma Jean Owens, 72, of Fairmont, passed from this life Thursday (May 16, 2013) at The Arbors at Fairmont Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born in Fairmont, on June 9, 1940, a daughter of the late James and Gladys O. Clark Hickman Green.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a Christian by faith. She enjoyed knitting and crochet work.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tisha Dawn and Anton Byers of Fairmont; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steven Andrew and Tracy Owens of Celina, Ohio, and Jeffrey Kevin Owens and his fiancée Kerry Boone of Fairmont; six grandchildren, Cody Robertson, Chase Owens, Brittany Owens, Kris McClung, Amina Byers and Taj Byers; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Laughlin; one sister, Rose Marie Foster of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Francis Neil Owens, on Dec. 28, 2006; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Emary Looman and Elva Louise and Roy Stewart.

Thelma chose cremation as her method of disposition. Her family will have a joint memorial service and reunion at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at either www.freyhomeforfunerals.com or fhff320@aol.com.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
