Gary Lake

Gary Richard Lake, 77, of Clayton, North Carolina, passed away May 18, 2014, at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a long illness.

He was born in Fairmont on April 8, 1937, the son of the late Lester Leonard Lake and Marie Hinzman Lake.

Gary was retired from the U.S. Navy, spending nearly half his Navy career as a flight engineer on the P-3 Orion anti-submarine aircraft. After his Navy retirement, he worked at Westinghouse in Fairmont and at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown before retiring in Clayton. He spent his early retirement years enjoying his hobby of refurbishing old cars and camping with his wife, Wilma Bennett Lake. He and Wilma were happiest when they were attending car shows to show off their beautiful cars or camping out on the lake in North Carolina.

His family and friends will miss this gentle and kind man.

Gary is survived by his wife, Wilma Bennett Lake of Clayton, North Carolina; his brother, Rex Lake (Elsie) of Bunner Ridge; daughters, Darla Lake Peterson (George) of Lost Creek, Lura Lake of Fairmont and Monica Lake Foley of Bealeton, Virginia; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Jones Moreland (Troy) of Terra Alta; daughter-in-law, Joyce Carroll Lake; grandsons, Ian Lake, Alex Lake (Amanda), Gary McIe (Tara), Troy Moreland and Frank Moreland; and granddaughters, Stephanie Hullinger (Matthew), Jaymi McIe, Taylor Foley and Shelby Foley. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his two sons, Thomas Scott Lake and Gary Wayne Lake; and his son-in-law, Steven McIe.

A memorial service will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown at 1 p.m. Friday with full military honors.

    Sam Pellerite, 93, of Zephyrhills, Florida (formerly of Village Way, Fairmont), passed away on Wednesday (June 25, 2014) in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where he had been living with his daughter during his battle with cancer. Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.

    Carmela retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, also the Sharing and Caring group.
