Joseph Potoczny

A celebration of the life of Joseph John Potoczny, 73, co-owner and pharmacist at Red Dot Pharmacy, who passed peacefully from this life May 9, 2014, will be celebrated with a memorial Mass on Saturday.

Mass will be held in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mannington at 11 a.m. with Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs V.F. as celebrant. Co-celebrants will be the Rev. Paul Wharton and the Rev. Thomas Dagle. Family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the Mass.

Joe was a devoted Catholic and practiced his faith in many ways. His “home away from home,” the Red Dot Pharmacy, allowed him to faithfully serve the people whom he called “my friend” to the upmost care, understanding and compassion. He had an outstanding career, being an alumnus of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy for 51 years, and he chose to follow his career in his home of Mannington and Farmington. Thirty-three of these years were shared with his closest friend and partner Mark Morris, co-owner of the Red Dot Pharmacy. Together Joe and Mark faithfully strived to graciously serve the people.

Born April 9, 1941, in Farmington, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Catherine Vingle, he is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty; four children and their spouses, Joseph II, Lori, Chris and Malissa; five grandchildren, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Joseph III, Gage and Jordyn; two step-grandchildren and spouses, Amy and Grant; three step-great-grandchildren, Danielle, Jack and Andrew; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and -nephews; one great-great-niece; several cousins; his best friend, Mark, Colleen; and all the Red Dot family.

Joe would like to leave a lasting legacy to the community by asking for memorial donations to be made in his memory to the Mannington Food Pantry (Jan Laskarin, Treasurer, 7813 Husky Highway, Mannington, WV 26582) and the Cross (William Hunter, Treasurer, 1107 Dickson St., Mannington, WV 26582). Joe has spent his life serving others, and this is a wonderful tribute to his memory to help him continue these efforts.

Please come and celebrate his life. “For those who knew him best there are no words to describe how much he will be missed.”

Hutson Funeral Home in Mannington has been entrusted with the cremation and funeral services. Online condolences may be accessed at www.hutsonfuneralhomes.com.
