Charles “Chuck” Mafield

FAIRMONT — Charles “Chuck” Glenn Mafield, 49, Benton’s Ferry Community, passed away Tuesday (July 12, 2011) at his home after a brave battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Fairmont on Jan. 11, 1962, a son of Juanita (Hayes) Mafield of Mannington and the late Warren “Gene” Mafield.

Chuck was a claims adjuster for 28 years, working for several companies including Crawford & Company for over 10 years and Oak Casualty Insurance Co. He also worked as an independent property adjuster. He was a graduate of North Marion High School Class of 1980; he was a member of the local Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 9 in Mannington; he was Presbyterian by faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mannington.

He was a hard worker and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren who meant the world to him. His interests included woodworking, working in the yard, going to the beach, fishing, hunting and teaching his dog, Keegan, tricks.

In addition to his mother, Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Deborah K. (Wilfong) Mafield of Fairmont; one son, Jason Mafield of Fairmont; one daughter, Amanda Efaw and her husband Richard “Ricky” of Fairmont; and three grandchildren, Kaylin Efaw, Laken Efaw and Jacquelyn Efaw.

Also surviving are four brothers, Doug Mafield and his wife Debra, Raymond “Donnie” Mafield, David Mafield, all of Mannington, and Keith Mafield and his wife Jane of Morgantown; one sister, Patricia Sheppard of Mannington; mother-in-law, Alberta Wilfong of Fairmont; brothers-in-law, Jim Wilfong and his wife Kathy, Raymond Wilfong and his wife Sandy, Virgil Wilfong, Walter Wilfong and his wife Annette, and Tom Wilfong; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hoffman and her husband Pooch and Nancy Miller and her husband Johnathan; a special best friend, Mark Griffith; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a father-in-law, James Wilfong; a mother-in-law, Deloris (Browning) Wilfong; and grandparents, Glenn E. and Doris Hayes and Charles and B. Louise Mafield.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Peoples Hospice, especially nurse Diane.

Family and friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Rich Buonaiuto officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.

Sam was born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Fairmont, the son of the late Vincent and Maria (Galiano) Pellerite. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Mae “Terry” (Cirillo) Pellerite.
