Marie Maxine Nichols, 86, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday (Jan. 18, 2014), at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Homer and Myrtle McCartney Queen. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Nichols, on Jan. 8, 1994.
Mrs. Nichols was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Fairmont. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School.
Maxine and George lived in several states throughout their married life due to his promotions with his work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. They returned back to Fairmont where Maxine involved herself with volunteering within the community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fairmont Chapter No. 34, as well as the Fairmont Elks Lodge and its Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her three nephews, Randy and his wife Kathy Aldridge of Lewes, Del., Stephen Aldridge of Newtown, Pa., and Jeffery Aldridge of Morrisville, Pa.; and her niece, Sabrina and her husband Jim Chadwell of Fairmont
She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond “Pete” Queen, and her sister, Barbara Jean Queen Aldridge.
Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, on Tuesday, from noon until 2 p.m. The Order of the Eastern Star, Fairmont Lodge No. 34, will hold a ritualistic service in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Matt Holbert officiating. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
