Fredrick Gorbey Sr.

Fredrick Spencer Gorbey Sr., 76, of Monongah, died Jan. 17, 2014, at Fairmont General Hospital.

Fredrick was born May 26, 1937, at Bergholz, Ohio, son of the late Mike Gorbey and Sarah Soles Gorbey.

Fredrick was retired from Marion County Board of Education, where he worked as a custodian for 20 years at Monongah High School and Monongah Middle School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Betty N. McCoy Gorbey; a daughter, Letha Thompson and husband Danny of Monongah, a son, Fredrick S. Gorbey Jr. and wife Jackie of Monongah, five brothers, Dago Gorbey and wife Linda of Fairview, Jim Gorbey of Fairmont, J.D. Gorbey of Fairmont, Kenny Gorbey and wife Patty of Loraine, Ohio, and Glen Gorbey and Wife Mary Lou of Ohio; two sisters, Mary Lou Mullenax and husband George of Monongah, and Ann Glaton and husband Terry of Georgia; four grandchildren, Rocky Gorbey and wife Kelly, Sarah Gorbey, Vicky Wilson and husband Chris, and Joey Patschke; and three great-grandchildren, Ellis Gorbey, Alley Wilson and Gianna Wilson.

In addition to his parents, Fredrick was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Mike, Richard, Clinton and Donald Gorbey; and a sister, Pearl Stuckey.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont ,on Monday from 6 p.m. to  8 p.m., Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Terry Core officiating. Burial will be at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at graveside by Marion County Veterans Council.

  • Nuke-arms grade stock has been cut by Iran

    Iran has converted three quarters of a nuclear stockpile that it could have turned quickly into weapons-grade uranium into less volatile forms and is well on the way toward transforming the rest, the U.N. atomic agency reported Thursday.
    The development — agreed to by Iran under a nuclear deal it struck late last year with six world powers — leaves Tehran with substantially less of the 20-percent enriched uranium that it would need for a nuclear warhead.
